Aluminum Free Deodorants

Why is Aluminum used in Deodorant?

  • Aluminum based compounds are used in many deodorants to temporarily plug the sweat ducts and prevent perspiration.

Health concerns of using Aluminum in Deodorant

  • Many people are concerned about the possible dangers of absorbing the aluminum into the skin. Aluminum mimics estrogen in the body, and may contribute to cancer.
  • It is also a neurotoxin and can lead to Neurological disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease.

What to look for:

Rashes:

  • If you suffer from rashes under your arms, you may need to look for baking soda free deodorants.
  • Some people actually have a reaction to the baking soda, and develop a rash after using it.

Pit Stains:

  • Antiperspirants can cause pit stains in your clothes. Switching to a natural deodorant may help with this.

Body Odor:

  • Bad body odor has a lot to do with what you’re eating and your stress level. Body odor is the result of bacteria breaking down protein into certain acids, and is more noticeable when sweating.
  • Eating processed or unhealthy foods will increase this unpleasant smell. Food with strong scents like onion, garlic, and curry can also cause bad odor to come through your pores. Drinking alcohol is another source.
  • Having a good gut microbiome is crucial for smelling good. Click here to see my recommendations on probiotics.
  • Body odor can be a symptom of something more serious, so always follow up with your primary care provider.
